ODL was founded in 1985 to service the growing needs of office-based urologists. ODL introduced the trans-rectal FNA biopsy of the prostate utilizing the liquid phase fixation.

ODL's pathologists, in collaboration with Dr. Donald Gleason, developed the Gleason grading of prostate cancer using the FNA technique. ODL has also developed a proprietary non-carcinogenic fixative, OncoFix II, which allows for dual histological and cytological examination of prostate biopsies. These dual analyses reduce equivocal results by 50% and increase the diagnostic yield by 3%.

ODL offers 24 to 48 hour turn-around time for biopsies, multi-tiered pathologist review of all cases, on-line color reports, customized laboratory development programs for technical laboratories, non-carcinogenic fixative, patient counseling and educational materials for cancers and other relevant diagnoses.
